IAA 2009: Funkwerk Dabendorf links vehicles with their environment

“In-car Internet” was one of the major topics at the world’s most important automobile fair in Frankfurt this year. Thanks to displays installed in the cockpit, an increasing number of drivers can use the World Wide Web in the car. But what about passengers in the back? At the IAA, Funkwerk Dabendorf presented a UMTS Wi-Fi router which enables mobile in-car Internet access. The signals are redirected inside the vehicle via LAN or Wi-Fi to notebooks, mobile phones and other mobile end devices. This way, all passengers in the vehicle – whether colleagues or members of the family – can benefit from the new application. As a specialised supplier for the development of wireless-based communication solutions for use in cars, we supply Internet access systems to the automobile industry. Mercedes-Benz will include a solution based on the UMTS Wi-Fi router in its range this year.
